Los Angeles to Atlanta
My wife and I are moving from LA to ATL next week. We have a rental truck and are pulling the bikes on our Kendon trailer. I have a Triumph Explorer 1200 and she has a V-Strom 650. Since we have 8 days to get there, we were thinking about unloading the bikes a couple of times for day rides.
So, here are my questions:
1. If we take the southern route using I-10 and I-20, are there any interesting "must ride" locations along the way? (Texas Hill Country comes to mind).
2. If we head across HWY 40, are there any "must rides" along that route?
3. Is there anyone along either route that is available next week and is feeling friendly enough to host us for a ride? (Not expecting a place to stay, just a half-day or full-day ride.
Any input or suggestions welcome.
Cool - good luck with the move.
I'm sure many others will chime in with ideas. I would recommend hopping off I-10 near Las Cruces, NM to check out the white sands monument, VLA, and Ruidoso/Cloudcroft. Nice areas to explore and very unique.
Texas hill country is also interesting to ride around. Not the greatest road conditions but if you haven't explored Texas much it would definitely be worthwhile. San Antonio is well worth a visit if you want to venture that far south. Southern Louisiana would also be quite interesting...
Lastly, you are going to have some very beautiful riding just North of you. Northern Georgia, TN, and WNC are all amazing places to ride, but since you'll be living so close to all that now I'd focus more on the southern option rather than heading all the way up to I-40, you'll be able to do all those others easily after the move. Just my $.02
Texas Hill Country
AH, Crabshack in Alabama
thats about it.
If ya need anything near Houston, lemme know
Thanks NitroRoo & Trucking Thumper. We were leaning south, so your ideas are helpful.
