Garmin 2720/2730
I just purchased a Tiger 800XC. As such, my funds are somewhat limited at the moment, but I do want a GPS.

I have the opportunity to buy either a used Garmin 2720 ($100) or 2730 ($150) locally, along with a cradle and power wires. My desire is to have a GPS to get me to addresses, and maybe follow pre-made gpx routes with it. Is that possible?

Are the 2720/2730 good units, or should I pass? Would I be better served with another GPS?

They can do those things. FYI, for a few bucks more you would probably be better off with a 28xx Street Pilot.

I love my 2720. It works perfect for me. $100 for one setup with mount and hard wire cable is a great price if it has updated maps. If not, you may want to just look around on ebay for one with new maps. They usually come with the car charger which can be made into a hard wire cable in about 30 seconds. The complete ram mount setup for it is ony about $35 shipped from GPS city as well.

I bought a 2720 years ago and it still works like a champ. Ran it on the bike until last fall when I got a Zumo and Montana, now the 2720 is on fulltime Jeep duty. I cannot comment on the other units being suggested, but the 2720 is good. If it has never been registered with Garmin, you might be able to get a single free map update out of it.

I had a 2730 and replaced it with a Garmin Nuvi 550. I wish I had kept the 2730. They are great units.

I two of each, i.e., (2) 2720 & (2) 2730 units, although for my truck & jeep with a "spare" for each. Although I like my Zumo 550, those StreetPilots are built like tanks and have enough internal storage capacity to accept full NA mapset updates... :thumb
