First oil change.

Hello, Just put the first 1000km on my new 990 adventure and managed my first oil change. (Took 6 hours lol). But when I added the fresh oil after following the Manuals guidelines 3 liters barely wets the dip stick. Is it common for anybody to add more then 3 liters. I just don't want to over fill it.

Thanks

Don't add more than the specified amount. Go for a ride and check it several times to get a feel for how the oil level can appear to vary and since you know the amount of oil is correct since you just put it in enjoy the ride.
Mine will vary on short rides but once it is hot and and been ridden it will stabilize and read correctly on the dip stick. I don't worry about the fluctuations because I already know the correct amount is in it and the bike doesn't burn any oil.

so you burn your warrante? why do you change your oil your self? its first service and normally you have no right if you do something wrong mate ! it isnt worth it .

Doing your own service doens't void your warranty(in the US). You just have to keep receipts and records of your services.

Weird my warranty book says all services needs to be done by certified KTM dealerships to be able to claim. Is the US warranty book different?

I'll check my paperwork when I get home, but I believe due to US law they can't deny a claim just because the dealer didn't do the work. I think it's covered under the Magnuson Moss Act.
