Anyone converted R1100Gs wheels to 18/21?

Hi,

anyone converted their wheels to 21 front and 18 rear?

I have bought a pair of gsa wheels from fellow inmate, but,it was badly bend and I have send them for pressing, but,I think only achieved of 85%...so,was thinking,of getting a pair of rims from takasago excel rims, but I need to find out what spokes to use...

If anyone have heard,or best, done so with the conversion, would love to hear ya...
:deal

cheers:freaky

Its been done before not sure where the post is. Holla Woody's Wheels he was involved. I think the R1ooR had an 18" front wheel so you can keep it tubeless if you want to stick with BMW rims. There have been plenty of 21" front conversions done. I have a R100GS front wheel on my 1100GS makes a big difference off road.

Link to a 1200 conversion interesting what is said about the 18' rear

And here is the 21" front conversion for the 1100 GS

Ahhh...

I thought I won't begetting any replies.
I've heard bout woody wheels.
But I am trying to do it locally.I can get the takasago excelrims.
Just need to know what type of spokes available or able to be use on the gs hubs.

Currently, the GS is undergoing a fuel tank enlargement project using the stock gs tank.

gaspipe put an 18" on the back of his 1100, I tried to get Woody's to do one for my 1150 and they refused the project.

tksmith used an excel rim in this post and says how they made the spokes to fit

I am surprised I have seen it done before on a 1100 but they machined part of the shock mount off so that the tire didn't rub. The 1150 has the different bottom mount so perhaps its not as easy. I think either the R100R and/or the 1200 crusier has an 18" front rim with crossed spokes so if you found one of these wheel you could try lacing up one yourself.
But from what I have been reading on here the 18" rear wheel doesn't make that much difference for general use other than tire choice.

That's what I was after...tire choice.

I figured that if Woody's said I shouldn't do it, then I probably shouldn't pursue it. I'm pretty happy with the Kenda Big Block over the TKC, I can live with the 17.

Well actually i can live with the 17 too,but since both wheels were bent,so i was having the thought of 21/18.
Buteven if it's 21 up front,it would be pretty.ground clearanceand handling would be improved...i reckon...:evil

yeah, GasPipe did it (and what a great thead that was till it got hijacked :cry )
yeah, he machined some off the lower shock mount.

I think the RT has an 18" rear as standard - cant be sure but some one will know or you can do a quick check on other models.

As for 21" front, the ones I have seen have had a different frame system installed with conventional forks
