DT/MX400 street tracker build
the big bore DT/MX400 street tracker is getting close to completion, and details will follow when the bike gets buttoned up, but here is a start, and a brief look into this build.
we started with a 1975 DT400 and with our background on working with these old 2-strokes, we knew they were de-tuned out of the box. the beauty of the DT400 is that it shares the same bottom end as the Yamaha MX400.
OK, let's throw a 38 mikuni, a HOT power dynamo ignition with very light fly wheel, MX 400 top end, refurbished crank from Mr. Crankshaft, genuine Yamaha PISTON overbored, sweet pipe from Circle F, all new everything else inside and out....clutch, seals, bearings, wiring, you name it, and it was replaced with nos parts.
also added was a couple of inches to the swing arm by Frame Crafters with some cool adjustable mounts. YSS is the rear shocks of choice, along with special made alloy wheels with Buchanon laced stainless spokes polished like the rims.
the original gas tank is going back on, and the Hot Wings seat is getting painted to match. the seat will hide the light weight plastic Tomos moped oil reservoir with oil indicator sending unit, so we will know by a blinking light on the controls when the oil is getting low.
the Power Dynamo ignition is run without a battery, so the whole underside of the seat pan will remain clean and you will get to see the big K&N filter.
tires of choice are vintage pattern from Hiedenhau.....the rest will follow when we get closer to firing her up for the first time. until then...CHEERZ!

we used the Flanders handlebars and a sweet all in one dirt bike switch, and Magura levers and Renthal grips

CIRLE F exhaust got light weight
this bike shed allot of weight and one of the big gains was this pipe. along with the switch to alloy wheels, alloy rear sprocket from Sprocket Specialist, the plastic oil reservoir, loose the fenders, tiny tail light and alloy turn signals, fiberglass seat pan, on top of the magnesium engine and hubs......I will weigh it when it is finished, but it rolls easy.

everything replaced with new
every seal, bearing whatever would come apart was replaced. all wiring will be new custom built. even key ignition is NOS......Yamaha fork brace going on next:clap

2-strokes rule the roost
getting closer to completion, with body work just back from decal shop. but for now it is happy kicking back with a few 2-stroke brothers from the 70s.
