My First Adventure

Picked up a KLR650 last weekend and set out this afternoon afterwork for a 2 hour ride @ 64 miles. Ridden a lot of miles on a bike but this riding on gravel is a different bird.

Headed out

My first gravel road this is called Floyd Tower Road, the road leads to the Mark Twain National Forest in SE Missouri. On the tallest point you guessed it a 911 tower and an old AT&T tower.

Stopped for a drink at the road to the tower, looks like they have one that has a bent mounting bracket and is leaning.

Continued on, the gravel road proved to be a challenge, I didn't go down but I have a lot to learn about this gravel/loose soil riding, nothing like a road bike or an ATV. Made it to a road called Gobblers Knob, didn't see any turkey but saw this old place.

My next stop was this old concrete bridge, this old road is out in the middle of an old Tiff Mill area and I am guessing that this must have been a haul road because this is a pretty substantial bridge for out in the middle of now where. The creek is Town Branch which runs into Hazel Creek

Rode through the Hazel Creek Campground, didn't find one person camping.

Stopped at the Palmer Church, years ago vandals did a lot of damage to this old place, glad to see it is being kept up and appreciated instead of tore up.

I made it back, just fine stopped to top off the tank in town before coming home, went about 64 miles and took a little over 2 hours, I sure enjoyed my first little adventure and it was good to work out some stress from the work day.

Keep practicing and riding you'll grow to love this type of riding!

After watching some videos and reading the reports of all the adventures being had on dirt roads I might have to add a KLR650 to the stable. Great pictures, looks fun!

Great job. Remember when it gets a,little squirrly get off the seat and standup,
the bike will handle much better.

Great pics and great ride. don't get to intimidated by the dirt. It is different for sure but lots of fun. dirt riding, espicially on a bigger bike is all about smooth transitions. And know this, you will crash, you will survive, you will be a better rider afterwards!:clap

When in doubt, gas it.

You may want to not get those same tires again when they are worn out. More knobs won't last as long but will be more stable in the rough stuff.

Practice makes perfect. You'll get there. :thumb
