Just a Florida Scoot About

This a "Scooter Trash" RR. If small wheels and lots of laughs turn you off, read no further.:happay
A "new to me" Vespa GT200 completed my conversion to the shiftless class and this was my first chance to get out for a decent ride since taking delivery...

Today started out with low chance of rain predicted. My GT200 has been in limbo here in Florida for the last three weeks and I was yearning to get the scoot out for some "road time". When I purchased it, riding was limited to a few miles and no real highway travel. Eager to run some Seafoam through it, today was the day. Destination, St. Augustine, one of America's oldest cities.
The route was mostly on secondary roads with highway 13 the best. Winding beside the St. John's river, under oaks dripping with Spanish moss, you could catch glimpses of the water.

This road must be popular with the pedal bike group, quite a few riders out...

After about 65 effortless miles cruising on the GT I arrived in the old city. I love some of the architecture......

This is now Flagler College, but began as the Ponce De Leon Hotel; part of railroad tycoon Henry Flagler's empire built in the late 1800's. Simply beautiful!

No expense was spared building this to lure the elite to holiday in Florida, stay in his hotels and ride his railroads. :deal

It was still early so I rode out to see the beach and light house before going further into the historic district.

The St. Augustine light is one of the most handsome along the coast. The keeper's house is beautifully restored and one can climb to the top for the view if you have the energy.:knary

The beach was very nice and not very crowded. Just too hot to spend much time out there. I came back to the parking lot and found this going on.....

" Hey, why don't we go to my place. We can make some sauce, share some vino and......."
Those Italians! :raabia

Crossing the Lion's Bridge takes me back to the historic district and the old Spanish Fort, Castillio de San Marco.

A presence since the 1500's, the fort never fell in battle despite seeing many battles and sieges. I got picked for sentry duty......

It was soon time to take a stroll through the Colonial Quarter, have a smoothie and head back to Jacksonville before the usual afternoon rain set in. :slurp
Adios St. Augustine!

The GT purred all the way home. Running a tank full of fresh fuel with Seafoam seems to have helped correct a bit of rough running noted when the bike was delivered. This scooter is definitely a keeper and I look forward to more touring, near and far.
Ciao!

IMO Northeast Florida is second to none and the scooting is outstanding. St. Augustine is always a fun stop. The west side of the river and into the gut of the state, Ocala Forrest etc, are also good scooting.

Beautiful Vespa, great pics. Enjoy !
