In the heart of Europe

190 km from Venice, 30km from the Alps, 95 km from the first sea island. I'm really lucky bastard :D to live in such a beautiful environment and I would like some of these beauties to share with you. Firstly , a few pictures to get a grip
(Some images are not from motorcycle trips but anyway)

You are very lucky indeed. I hope you will post more pictures and a ride report soon. Thank you for sharing with us

I will start with Grossglockner as a travel Mecca for motorcyclists in these places. From the house I can do in one day (not counting the pain in the ass after 600km) but i wanted to see some Tyrol beauties so I finished it in two days.

Start was a little boring, but as soon as I turned off the highway things become much better.

http://i731.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps93a608f0.jpg

I passed Treviso, Pontebba and climbed on the Pramollo pass
http://i731.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps389af740.jpg

Weather was fine, maybe a little too warm for my taste.
BTW: Sorry about the lack of motorcycle posing pictures, but until now I did not intend to publish them, and I look at my thumper every day.

Pass

Going down. There is a small cosy city with unpronounceable name. C-M and something.

ups and downs

This valley leads to the Grossglockner. The weather was becoming increasingly hot

Finally Heiligenblut (holy blood) , I read a lot about the construction of this road to the GG and Heiligenblut was important logistic centre.

I received my winter setup yesterday :clap Contis TKC 80
http://i731.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps6b40d032.jpg

But we are still a long way from those days, at least few weekend trips on tarmac, I hope.

Probably now is the right time to introduce myself. I am over 40, family man, love sports and bikes of all kind (even MTB).
Me and my wife
http://i731.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps44ab6bc8.jpg

I've been driving serious bikes only for four years, and i tried all kinds of them.
Bike before current one:

But eventually I realized that thumper is the right kind for me. Agility, lightness and raw power. Yes it's hard to drive and it vibrates like a sledgehammer, but i love it.

Time to go on with my report:

Finally on the F-J hohe. There is a glacier in front of us. And crowd!

GG peak

One more
http://i731.photobucket.com/albums/w...psc35664aa.jpg

Then backtrack a little and via Edelweiss spitze.
http://i731.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps3fc832fb.jpg

Darel 09-12-2013 01:31 AM

Edelweiss spitze is the highest pass in this alpine road.

http://i731.photobucket.com/albums/w...psa7529dee.jpg

And the down on the other side. I slept at this hotel. Very old, food quality was rather poor, not something i would write home about:puke1.

Last weekend we did daytrip at seaside. It's matter of one and a half hour ride each way.

Slovenian coast is cliffy
http://i731.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps42b63e1c.jpg

A short boat trip
http://i731.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps68758dd9.jpg

http://i731.photobucket.com/albums/w...psd3f450d1.jpg

A friend, my son and me.

Darel 09-12-2013 05:25 AM

Back to Grossglockner.

Next day ,after some Tyrolian sightseeing i went back through tauern tunel
http://i731.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps9d5f87a8.jpg

In Lienz they had a kind of public event. Sun heated as insane and standing in motorcycle equipment in the heat is not something I want to do often.
http://i731.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps29581244.jpg

So, getting to the Carinthia lakes was top priority. But Austrians have a strange habit or hobby of creating as many as possible obsticles to make free acess to the lakes imposible. (jap, english is not my first language). Therefore public facilities are the only way to get wet :huh
