Super Enduro Numbers....Mystery Solved
<HR style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #575757; COLOR: #575757" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title -->Just how many Super Enduros were manufactured? There has been lots of conjecture in the forum over the past years with many different numbers proclaimed to be the actual tally.
I had unsuccessfully written KTM-NA, no reply. I then applied for press credentials and sent an inquiry to Austria concerning the SE numbers.

This is what I just received from Mattighofen:

Dear Mr Ince!

Great to hear that the bike has still so many fans!

Fortunately 500 unit´s produced is not correct, overall we have built and sold around three thousand Super Enduro´s worldwide.

So there you go, surprising in a way. I had never heard anywhere near that number of SE's amongst the guesses I had seen.

Actually, I remember this number, I have seen it before and I'm sure, in this forum. What I have never ever seen before, is an actual answer from Matinghofen, this is a first! :clap

I believe you but that number is way more than any other guestimates I can recall seeing.

I had written off receiving a reply from KTM as it had been a couple of weeks since my inquiry. A pleasent surprise for sure.

Now I really would be shocked to get a reply to my follow up question about the chances for a rebirth of the SE. :ear

So I like to push the limits...well I ride a Super Enduro, so no worries.

Risk versus gain equation worked for me. I do believe that the next reply may be a predicted long time in coming.

I went to the KTM dirt demo day last year and talked to someone from KTM about the SE. I don't recall his exact title, but he was directly involved with KTM's marketing and sales. I asked about bringing back the SE or putting out a new version with EFI. He said it wasn't something they would consider for a couple of reasons. The sales of the SE were too low and slow. And people really weren't riding them as they were intended. They were never intended as a long range touring bike, but that's what a lot of people want to turn them into. Most people (because of opportunity or ability?) aren't riding them as a big dirtbike, like they were intended.

They make a great touring bike given they are designed to be hammered so for us I am hoping that will give longevity .

Good to know. Now do you think you shoot off something to Husqvarna and try and find out how many TE610's were made for the 06'-09' range or 08'and 09'. Another one of those things that I've never seen a solid number for.

Interesting logic , based on real world observations that seem accurate. But thats no fun. Why should KTM give a shit as to how the owners use the bike? If the bike is in demand, sell the people what they want.
I would hope to hear back from KTM that the next version will be out soon, 40 pounds lighter and running 800 cc's. with the same HP.

Not a shot, but if they did have such an animal; Maybe introduce the new SE with a marketing plan that would reach out to the demographic capable of producing the sale numbers needed for KTM to get what they need out of the deal. Their publicity efforts when the initial SE came to be were mostly non-existant as I recall. I cant believe that the bike, if re-introduced in a lighter version, and properly displayed to the masses would not be a smashing success for KTM. Ya ya, I know. Aint happening.
....I'll be keeping mine around for a long while.
