Western CT & New England on a F800R

A little history here. I packed up my life into my car & moved out to OR from RI a bit over two years ago for a dream job. There, I picked up this motorcycling habit as a function of being an engineer for an electric motorcycle design and development company.
While out there I met my wonderful girlfriend, who recently got her chance at a dream job. We packed everything back up, this time into two cars, and moved to CT.
It's great being back within reach of old friends, the environment where I grew up, but I had the itch to get back on a bike.
We went up to the BMW dealership on a rainy day, looked at a few bikes, talked price a little, and the sky cleared enough for some riding. The F800R isn't what I was looking for, but it fit me perfectly.
A week later, we went back to pick it up, left the car at the dealership, and set off on a semi-planned 160 mi, 5 hr ride through northwest CT. The story starts here!

The bike, all ready to go!

Picturesque Litchfield CT, where we had lunch at a cute outdoor pizza resturant.

Abandoned/closed bridge, and waterfalls

Continued and found one of the several wooden covered bridges in CT. Nearly toppled off the bike as I was putting it on the sidestand here- the stand found a leaf-obscured hole to drop into!

We saw signs for a state park & waterfall, so we stopped there too.

Great two-up ride, came away even more in love with the bike.
More to come!

Mounted a GIVI B-47 "Tech" topbox to the F800 a few days ago, which has made life lots easier for riding to work, and it'll also serve as a backrest for my girlfriend.

Brought the camera on the way to work today- Lighting wasn't ideal, but it's still a beautiful section of road.

Love those roads!

Welcome back—got my F800GS from Max (actually, lightly used on consignment from them) and have ridden many of the same incredible Western CT roads. Love the Cornwall Bridge! If you're at all interested, check out some of my Ride Reports below (in signature).

Watch out for wet leaves! DANGER WILL ROBINSON!

Happy to be back!
Will check out your reports, I'm always looking for new destinations.

Skipped riding today because of those wet leaves that we've got in the forecast this evening.

Looking forward to hearing/seeing more from you. Welcome back to NE!

Do I need the winter jacket today? Eh. Ought to be OK with the liner in my leather jacket. Don't want to take the time before work to move the back protector from one to the other.

BRR! I didn't think that through quite far enough.

Stopped on the way to work to grab a few shots that I'd been wanting to get- The Housatonic river gets steamy on cold mornings, I've seen it much more intense than this before.

This place is always packed with cars in the afternoon.. Great view from here too. Will have to return at some time other than 8:15 AM.

Mental note.. Must get wider lens, have been considering Nikon's 18-200, but haven't thrown the cash at it.. Currently using a D70 with an offbrand 28-90.

I'm enjoying it. Both the bike & learning a new area. I grew up just off the other side of CT in southern RI.

I live one river valley over from The Lake House. Ride on 34 and up into Litchfield County often. Lots of great riding there for sure.

Seems like there are a lot of us in the general area.

Today, one from the commute in, and two from a little urban decay exploring on the way home.
Looking down the Housatonic again, at a rail bridge.

Great Pictures of Home

Great pictures! I was born and raised in Danbury and spent a lot of my childhood at Kent Falls and Mohawk. I left 25 years ago and live in Houston now and miss the scenery and would love to ride those roads from my childhood now. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Lucky

Thanks Lucky! It's encouraging me to get my camera out a bit more often, and I'm enjoying it.

Hope to get out for some longer adventures in the upcoming week or two, before it gets too cold.

Nice pics and welcome back to NE. I commute from Bristol to Trumbull on RT 8 and while it only take me 45 minutes to get to work in the morning, it can sometimes take me 2-3 hours to get home. Depending how lost I choose to get in the Litchfield hills. There are many awesome roads to explore. One of my favorites is on the west side of Bear Mountain is Salisbury. You'll have to check it out.

before moving to Florida in 1972, I grew up in New Milford. Kent Falls was someplace we went quite often... brings back great memories just hearing you mentioned that place
