My duck dog died, leaving me with no desire to keep hunting, so I traded my ATV for a Triumph Thunderbird; not the best of choices for a first bike, but I'm still here.

My grandfather have me my uncles z50 as a hand-me-down at age 4.
30years later, I'm still just as excited to get on a bike.

I was poor, had a eyeball injured by an car engine accident, had no money, was newly married, and had to get to work an hour away.

Old Kawasaki 454 LTD = 400 bucks
Old Buick that looks like it wouldnt last the week = 800 bucks

I bought the bike, hopped on, and rode to work.

Been riding to work ever since. My only regret is I didnt get a bike earlier.

And before someone says it, yes, my first bike was a cruiser, and I rode it with an eyepatch. :lol3

honda cg 125

Six month before we left my dad bought a brand new honda cg 125 cc for his brother and I just to ride with often and some times with my dad. The ride with my dad was what got me into motorcycle. At the age of 14 I received my first moped a suzuki k50 and later also yamaha fs1. But it was the ride with my dad who did the trick.

The neighborhood rich kid's minibike. A family camping trip where somebody in the next site was giving Trail 90 rides.

Honda Mini Trail 50 in 1970. I still get the same feeling on two wheels today as I did the first time I rode a mini bike.

parking at san jose state was $60 per semester for your car.....motorcycles were free and a 450 nighthawk was $900

I'm consider myself a gearhead, and when I moved to NYC for career purposes I couldn't build anymore cars and I had no need for them either, so my passion of wrenching was gone, a piece of me was missing. It also became challenging leaving the city and getting around on foot and mass transit. I always had a major interest for motorcycles, but was deathly afraid of them due to several friends that had passed away on bikes and the bad reputation it has. So I signed up for the MSF anyway, and I got laid off the following week. I had time to cancel the class and get a refund, but something inside told me to take it anyway, so I did and I LOVED IT!

I bought my first bike a week after, and could not stop riding it, wrenching on it, learning about it, and putting miles and miles and miles. It was a long winter so I read as many books as I could and went crazy over proper riding techniques, eventually I met a nice group of riders and did my first track day. After doing my first track day a few months later, cars are now something of the past for me, I am completely in love with any and all types of motorcyles, riding, etc.. they have become a big part of my life over the last couple of years, and will be for the rest of my life.

Heh, same boat here at Duke. Parking near my office, $120/mo for a car space. Honda Superhawk, parks free anywhere on campus.

How'd I get into motorcycling? Saw my friends older brother picking up girls on his dirt bike all the time, and thought... I need a dirt bike. Who knew it would be way more fun than women?

Well, after about age 35 anyway. :eek1

The opening to Van Halen's 'Hot for Teacher', and the realization of what sound Alex was mimicking.

I got a mini bike in third grade. One of the best things that ever happened to me.

My neighbor was a kid 2 years older than me. I was in kindergarten and he was in second grade when Santa brought him a Z50 Honda. I fell in love with it immediately. My parents said no for years. I was PERSISTENT and rode my friend's Z50 anytime he would let me which wasn't much. My dad brought home a 1979 Suzuki DS80 when I was in second grade. It was only 3 years old but it was pre-beaten by an older kid for those 3 years. OMG, I was in heaven. I rode that thing all the time. The following year, my 10 year old cousin and my 11 year old self got brand new DS80's. It's still the only new bike I've ever owned. I was over the Santa Claus thing by then and I knew how much money my dad spent on that bike. I took great care of it and I rode it til my knees hit the handlebars. He sold it to someone at his work so their kid could have a bike. I was bikeless for a year or so and then bought my own XL250 dual sport from a teacher at my school. In other words, it has been an obsession since I was 6 years old.
