Europa 2014

http://www.allersretours.com/imgalr/...2014-Terre.jpg

Because 2014 is my 60th year.
Because 2014 is European Elections year.
Because I like to see Europa in peace.
And because it's a great challenge I've in mind since a long time.

http://www.allersretours.com/imgalr/...e-2014-920.jpg

75.000 km and some, 42 different countries, every capitals of them, 220 days on the road, so about 350 km each day (except maintenance days).
Alone, and with the tent as usual.

Departure from atlantic coast in France, Paris, Belgium with Brussels, British Isles (England, Scotland, the two Irland, back thru Galles and Cornwall), France, Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, down to the south of Germany, then to the north toward Baltic Sea thru Berlin, Denmark, Suede, Norway until North Cape. Back south thru Finland, small detour to Russia until St. Petersburg, the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania), the russian enclave of Kaliningrad, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Vienna, Hungary, Romania, Moldova, the Danube Delta, Serbia, Kosovo, Former Republic of Macedonia, Bulgaria, European Turkey (Istanbul), Bulgaria again, Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Liechtenstein, Venice, Italy, Republic of San Marino, Rome, Vatican, Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, Italy again, Switzerland, France (South thru the Alps), Monaco, Andorra, Spain to Gibraltar, Portugal .... and France, back to Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, departure city.

Departure on the 1st of April, return at the beginning of November.

http://www.allersretours.com/imgalr/...2-DSC09250.jpg

And that's the bike, my small Yamaha YBR 250.
Because it's not heavy (154 kgs with 19 liters in tank),
because it doesn't drink so much (3,25 liter pro 100 km),
because it's less expensive than a lot of other ones....

http://www.allersretours.com/imgalr/...2-DSC09271.jpg

It's not my first trip, but it will be the most expensive one, because of the big number of kilometers. The problem is specially due to the maintenance, every 10.000 km. And I'm not able to do anything.

Then, I greatly hope that you will be some of my helpers along the trip.
I plan that the different maintenance areas will be :

04/29 Calais France
05/26 Stockholm Suede
06/24 Tallinn Estonia
07/21 Satu Mare Romania
08/23 Patras Greece
09/24 Messine Sicily Italy
10/18 Madrid Spain

Then, perhaps there will be some bikers, from a motorcycle club or not, that will be able to help me to make these things I can't do, and then allow me to continue the trip.

The routes are described here.

If you want to have a look upon my previous trips, you can follow here.

Everything will be told upon my website www.allersretours.com, as I usual do it.

Regards.

Jef

Happy 60th birthday :clap (subscribed)

That looks like a great way to celebrate it, and I like your bike - the only thing it is missing is a center stand. You might consider having a Scott Oiler or similar fitted.

Probably your dates are not fixed yet, but just for information, 23/06 is our Victory Day and 24/06 Midsummer Day, both are national holidays.
It will be difficult to find open workshop then
Otherwise great time, in the evening of 23/06 there will be Midsummer parties all over Estonia in open air with fire and music.
Regarding your route through Estonia, just don't use those big main roads but follow northern coastline (limestone clint) and smaller roads (gravel) where possible.

Hi randel
Many thanks for these important precisions. OK then, I'll integrate that !
What do you suggest me about the route in Estonia ?
Do you have some GPX files ?
Don't forget that my bike is not a trail, just a small normal road bike ;-)

Yes, but a smaller lighter bike can easily ride roads that would be uncomfortable on a larger heavier bike.

Not to mention that it's easier to pick up. :evil

If you should require something while in Finland, please contact me. I will be in Helsinki until about 22 June, after which I will be wandering continental Europe on my motorcycle until August. But if I am around town I will do my best to be of help, and I have a home motorcycle workshop with good tools and such that I can offer you. (I also know where the local Yamaha shop is, if needed)

That's really true ! I just mean that such a bike is more... breakable. But yes, it's possible, of course.

Hi FinlandThumper.
Thak you very much for your offer, I notice it, it's very kind from you.
I think I'll contact you around the 15th of June. I could be in Helsinki at 18th of June, and it would be a good idea to change oil there, and perhaps also tyres.
Then, with great pleasure !

What a great journey you have ahead. Congrats!

Looks like you'll be riding right past my home turf too - I can always fix you a bit curvier route, or even some WRC gravel if thats your thing. And like FinlandThumper I'm ready to lend a hand if something unexpected happens :wave

If I am here when you arrive, my garage can be your garage! I have a tire bead breaker and balancer, irons, etc. so no problem there.

Sounds like a plan :rofl

Finnish hospitality - 1. Drink a shitload of booze with your guest, not mixed 2. Rip off your clothes 3. Step into a 100 C room 4. Run into the lake 5. Repeat until 5 am.
