LA for 1 day in July!

Hi locals! We are coming to LA in July for work and will be renting a Tiger for 24 hours. We are looking for some good riding, a place to stay and breakfast at the Rock Store. We would also like a view of the city at night. Angeles Crest?

Please share your knowledge and ask me anything you want to know about Ohio! I'm 20 minutes from Mid Ohio!

so there's definitely a lot of ground you can cover if depending on how hard you wanna push. maricopa hwy 33 up north would be fun to toss in and you can ride the coast up to it pretty easily and theres stuff over southeast of LA but its not on the water which is a little less fun but meh.

Make sure you rent that bike on a Saturday or Sunday, because the Rock Store is closed weekdays.

Newcombs Ranch Restaurant is open 7 days.

Angeles Crest and Angeles Forest are good rides, a loop with a stop at Newcombs can take you all day.

Los Angeles Metro is a HUGE area, where are you going to work?

Exactly the type of intel I was looking for! Thank you! I am taking a class in Long Beach. Will be flying into LAX on Sunday and staying in Long Beach until Thursday. Then we have Thursday afternoon and all day Friday to look around before flying out first thing Saturday morning.

From Long Beach you have a lot of freeway before the fun starts.
Get up early.
Take 405 east to 605 north to 210 east to 15 north to exit #131 (Hwy 138)
Turn LEFT at top of ramp, go over fwy and get gas at Shell on right.
Go about another mile and turn left on Lone Pine Canyon after you go under the railway bridge.
Stay on Lone Pine for a few miles up the hills until you see some parts of the village.
Look for Sheep Creek Road. Turn right there. Go down the hill to the end and turn left on Hwy2.
This is Wrightwood. (gas again, trust me). If you stop to eat here turn left on Park Street and go to the Evergreen. Otherwise there is coffee and do-nuts on your right just after the big supermarket.
Leave town headed west and make a choice, you can either take the long way or short way.
Short way is stay on 2 at the stone ranger station a few miles west of town, so it's a long left sweep. This takes you to Newcombs Ranch Restaurant, it's about 30 miles, there is no gas for over 70 miles.
After Newcombs you just take 2 west all the way down to the freeway, (gas on left over freeway) get on in your right lane and head east and towards Pasadena and then LB.

If you decide to go the long way: 100 miles no gas.
Set your odo at zero at the ranger station.
After Stone Ranger station take a right DOWN the hill on Big Pines.
At 7 mile mark, pass Mile High Café, keep straight.
Turn left at 15 mile mark Pallet Creek Road.
Then take immediate right on Fort Tejon Road.
At 22 mile mark turn left at Mount Emma.
At 26 mile mark come to cross roads, keep straight.
At 33 mile mark turn left on Angeles Forest Hwy.
At 45 mile mark turn left on Upper Big Tujunga.
At 55 mile mark turn left on Route 2 Angeles Forest Hwy.
At 65 mile mark turn left in to Newcombs.

You can now either go back to Wrightwood or come back down past Upper Big Tujunga to the Freeway to Pasadena.
Colorado Blvd in Pasadena is lively for the night, or if you get back to LB Pine Ave is the hot ticket.

I lived in Long Beach for 20 years. I've lived at the base of the mountains for 10 years.

What date are you coming?

We will be out on the morning of July 13th. Might try to rent a bike for the day from EagleRider by the airport and run up to the Rock Store. Then stay in Long Beach through Thursday. Rent again from Eaglerider for 24 hours Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon. Then fly out Saturday morning.

Thanks again for the advice!

Scott

You'll want an early start for the Rock Store on Sunday morning from LB. Like 6am. Happy time at Rock Store is 7 to 10, after that it can get insane with the Harley crowd.
If you keep going past Rock Store and then take a canyon down you can eat at Neptunes Nest on Pacific Coast Hwy and then keep going east to Santa Monica. After that you can wind your way on PCH to LB or take the freeway..I'd take the fwy!

There are lots of nice canyons to ride on around the Rock Shop. Leave Long Beach on the 405 north to the 10 west which turns into Hwy 1 north. Stay on Hwy 1 till you get to Decker Canyon Road thai that north to Encinal Canyon which runs into Mulholland Hwy and will take you to the Rock Shop. Get there before 11am on Sunday and you stand a chance to see Jay Leno.

You can spend hours exploring the back can you roads and a Tiger would be the perfect bike to do it on.

Let me if you want a few riding mates. We ride that area most Sundays

Have fun!

Dave

Newcombs

He was at Newcombs last Sunday at 11am exactly as we sat down and missed the 11am breakfast menuhttp://fettler.smugmug.com/Other/NEW...9x640%29-L.jpg.

He saw Colleen and politely asked to have his picture taken with her. He was eager to hear about her recent ride to Tierra Del Fuego, Ushuai, Argentina.

Rock Store area, highlighted after a showed a buddy where we went "that day".

On the very right of map is Tuna, it's one way down to the ocean. Very beautiful.

Wow! This is great info! Newcomb's looks really cool. We will definitely check out Tuna! We are going to be riding Thursday, 7/17 in the afternoon and most of the day Friday. Trying to see it all!
