It's actually a 1971 R5-B model you have . I had a new one in 1971 at age 16, very fast, and would do roll on wheelies in 2nd gear. You found a keeper there, I wish I still had mine.

Battery

Keep an eye on the battery, I had 2 different 1989 Alps, and they both boiled the battery dry. Also the connections on the starter solenoid , as they tend to corrode.

I tried both settings, and I found it didn't help. The main problem I found, was the stock XC bars did not have enough sweep. I test rode an Explorer, and found the handlebars had about 1-1/2" more...

I put ROX risers on my xc, but took them off when I got a pair of Explorer bars. I found that I didn't need them with these bars. So Triumph got it closer on the Explorer, but they sure missed it on...
