I use cooler bags from the 2nd hand shops. Rectangle of plastic inside to reinforce the base and a couple of 2.5mm layers of dense foam to protect the contents from the bolt heads.

Although the local gearbox guy who looked at my broken 3rd did not like it at all. A billet gear is unlikely to shatter in the catastrophic manner of a sintered gear.
