If the motor is at top dead centre there is very little tension on the back side of the chain where the tensioner puts it pressure. You can than start the tensioner thread by hand with no force.

You would be best to look for a car fuel cell if you want to go 27lt on the back. Most of the bike tanks like adv-tank or nomads are only a little over 7lt.

Be careful doing this mod if you are using a rear rack tank like a nomad or advtank as the main tank will leak around the filler cap. I found this out the hard way with 7 lt of fuel on my floor...
