I would buy my 2007 R1200GS again...specifically for touring, secondary roads and vacation riding with gear. It is a great bike, pretty reliable with "occasional" recalls that the dealer address...

Leviathan Mine Road is a great starter road. It is a scenic road ride to the site and a good entry off road trail. I've done it on a R1200GS with no issues so anything smaller would be easy.
