Ok, so it has a small gas tank. So what! My 1st bike was a 71 Yamaha 360 enduro it had a 2.5 gal tank and got 35 mpg so 100 miles would be tought.
I like the 48 might make a good around town bike...

If I remember right the fenders(front and rear) were not the same color as the gas tank and oil injection reservoir. The fenders were gray. I don't think any of the Yamahas of that type CT,DT, RT...

One of my riding buddys had 2 of these 175s a 71 and a 75. They were a rotary valve engine and had decent power. Both bikes were reliable. I wish I could help with your problem but I don't remember...
