I am a month away from 54. I rode my 3rd GS to baja and ca me home and bought the 1190. She brings a smile when I mount up.

There is allways a chance for snow in the higher altitudes however until late october you should be ok. I live along the route that you mentioned and i think that is a great time of year. Be safe.
