I've seen a bunch of these home made set-ups and also folks using regular baking soda... for what it's worth a home made siphon blaster is quite different from a pressurized canister type soda...

just remember to keep the marks down and out- they are a pain to adjust the first few times, just have to get the feel for it. Those kinked gauges make a big difference.
