I agree, the bike is one of the most reliable machines on this planet! My favorite thing about it is the nice thick side case covers made of soft metal. You can crash it all day...

Look through the caps and check if the cam lobes...

Look through the caps and check if the cam lobes are facing down. If they are facing down, you are in the correct position to adjust. Doesn't matter if you are perfectly lined up with the timing...

The 1996-2004, like mine, need work like I said before but they are outstanding once they're all set up right. Hard to beat a proper XR250R or XR400R for a dual-sport actually!

The pre-1996 XR250R's are rock solid. You're lucky to have one! These bikes love to have the airbox opened up a bit, and they LOVEEE to be bored out to a large displacement.

My XR250R is starting to slip out of gear in 2nd and 3rd, and hits false neutral when downshifting :cry

Soon it'll be torn down for like the 20th time haha. Maybe it's just asking to be bored out...

I think the kill button just grounds the wire going to it when you push the kill button in, eliminating spark at the spark plug. Someone else knows for sure, but I don't :D
