Then here's the second one : I had a leaky bottom gasket on the rear cylinder on my 2006 '990. Spooned out the engine, replaced all gaskets (top and bottom) on both cylinders. Problem solved.

Had the same problem some years ago. It was the + lead inside the headlight armature that rubbed agains the sharp edges of the highbeam socket. Easy fix.

The rectifier is not before or after the battery (as can be seen on the block diagram)...main power and battery are switched parallel after the rectifier.
Therefore connecting the voltmeter directly...

Had the same problem this week. Check the last metal clutch plate (that pushes against the belleville spring). I bet it has a considerable groove in it.
Just put that plate somewhere in the middle...
