I had the same problem with the looks...I just...

I had the same problem with the looks...I just sawed off about 4" in front of the bracket then reattached with rivets that are hidden. Looks better and does not cost anything.

It could be the starter relay in the fuse box. Have it checked with an ohmmeter or just replace it to see if that solves the problem.
