Good news - I'm 99% sure this isn't a crack - closer inspection (with a mirror on the inside of the brace) revealed no sign of a crack. So, I think this is just a scratch in the paint. Phew!

I agree that the clutch switch mod makes the throttle response a little abrupt in tricky going. For those occasions I just pull the fuse and I'm back to T-mode. Takes all of 5 seconds..
