One more thought

One thing I'd do different; In the Bay Area you take the 92 to Half Moon Bay. I'd take the 92 to the 35 (Skyline Blvd) and take it South to 84. At the corner of 35/84 is Alice's...

A couple thoughts

Leaving Portland, take 26 towards Madras. The ride across Mt Hood is very nice.

Then head South on 97 and hit Crater Lake. Take the 62 West and then the 234 to Grants Pass.

Out of Grants Pass...

A couple thoughts

Take the 36 from or to the coast, rather than the 44/299. Just west of Red Bluff it gets you this (https://hotchillicoldbeer.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/twisties.jpg).

As long as you're going...

"How about sushi? Did they give you any good sushi recommendations?"

And I said, "I'll throw it out there..."

Nothing fancy, but like good raw fish. Any suggestions?

"101 south to 580 East to 5 South"?

Not the route I'd take. I'd head out of Arcata on 299 towards Weaverville, take the 3 to connect with 36 and take 36 back to 101; Nice big loop with some fantastic riding. Just for the fun of it....
