I don't know about mine being "properly tuned" since I was the one doing the tuning. But after I learned what does what on the carb, and a little trial and error, I'm getting 45-50mpg....

That's going to depend on the tongue weight...

That's going to depend on the tongue weight capacity of your Pilot's hitch more than what bike or carrier you have on the back. I would want to have a minimum of 500lb capacity to be safe.
