I've lowered the pegs on mine and use the factory gel seat which raises you up a bit. If you are worried about dragging the pegs I would add Soupy's adjustable shock links in place of the stock ones....

You could also check your local hardware store for appliance enamel. Its an epoxy paint. I'd guess its similar to the PJ1 stuff. It cures slowly, but after a week or more becomes really tough.
