From what I have read, they added the holes after a certain build date, therefore perhaps each one come from a different batch. Calling Touratech is certainly the best option anyway ...

I think that the holes are there to avoid difference in pressure between the interior and the exterior of the case which may prevent to open the case (if you ride in altitude).

I did have a similar issue but in fact TT forgot to drill the holes. I did it myself and then found that the headlight could not be adjusted :-( I did not sleep until I fixed it in the morning :-)))
