For a few dollars you can get a large syringe from a feed store to set the oil height . A 6" crescent wrench will fit between the spring coils to hold that nut , no special tool needed .

Check the pressure before you add gas . If you have to add gas you have a leak . The stuff just doesn't disappear . Look for oil on the fittings and stuff , that is the sign of a leak .
