No one has mentioned 2 strokes. These bikes are light, can be tuned for whatever power you want, are reliable, cheap to fix if something goes wrong, and I personally have never overheated one. ...

I've plated a few of these KDX's and the only changes were a brake light and rear switch, 9V horn, mirror and DOT tires. No 'kit' involved, and pretty darn cheap. your laws may vary, but it should...

Agree Blake...half our age is closer to it...which is why the '90 KDX was so attractive, and all the older bikes I've gone through. BTW - the KDX is really nice - nothing is worn in the parts...

I measured my mileage on a correctly jetted 200 trail ride, 3-4th gear average, on/off throttle, and get 35 MPG. For the stock 3.2 gallon tank that gives you 100 +/- to empty. 2S do not get as good...

XR mufflers
XR 600 is a lot larger diameter than the 250. The stock muffler (with baffle installed) is a rare breed.

Yellowstone & dogs
Yellowstone, and I think most National Parks, do not allow dogs on any trails...which means they stay in the car (sidecar?) all the time. Not recommended for your situation.
