I got the same model Tusks on my KLR as IdahoRenegade. Bike has been down on them several times HARD hits(concrete, solid rock hills etc..) no damage to bike, bars or hand guard mounting bars.

you need to rev the bike out more/further! I shift between 4-5k rpms, minimum. That is where it seems to be happiest. You will see much smoother shifts if you rev the motor out to at least above 4k...

I put Renthal 666 (desert Hi bend) bars on my KLR and love them. They are wider and taller than stock I believe and I have no problems with any of cables.
