I have a BV500 which is similar to the Scarabeo 500. It is more than up to the task. It is limited on storage. You might look into a Burgman 400. They have loads of storage and are capable freeway...

I have the Ztechnik HID aux lights. The ballast is mounted under the beak. You really can't even see it unless you are looking for it.

The parts guy at my dealer recommended the Battery Tender Jr. It plugs right in to the pigtail that came with the bike. It doesn't get easier or cheaper than that.

I don't bother with the side stand ritual. I just pop it on the centerstand, come back 10 min later. Oil showing in glass means good to go.

I soften the bugs with a wet cloth to remove and then use a plastic polish from Maguires or Mothers. It might help a little and will keep it from getting worse.

I went the driving lights route with Ztechnik lights. They come as a complete kit with ballast, switch, etc. No need to mess with the stock system.
