Dealer trick when servicing, Take the throttle slack to minimum. Customer thinks it's a performance gain when it's realy just the throttles open a bit more than usual.

Toured once with and SLR and lenses in a back pack, Stuffed my back with all that weight bouncing up and down. Now just use and Olympus TG-2, slips in my pocket and for me does 90% of what a SLR can....

Like others said, If you want a basic all roads bike the Bonneville/Scambler will cope. Wouldn't try to get too serious in the dirt though.
