I just got done attaching my Sputnik Cargo hack back on the 78 BMW that hauled it home from Dauntless 10 yrs. ago.

Yes the fine splines wear and strip and that's why Ural went to the larger splines. You can put the larger ones in by just replacing the drive shaft and yoke. I have a 1999 Patrol just like yours....

You also need to check the load rating for the tire. Sidecars need a stiffer tire for the side loads. I believe Ural calls for a 4 or 6 ply rating.

I've had 2 Sputnik Cargo sidecars which use the same frame as the passenger one and never had an axle problem. On had a CJ wheel and the other had a BMW wheel.
