I ended up picking up a new (to me) 2002 R1150GS in blue and white. It's got 48k on the clock and should be a wonderful ride for the next 100K.

Just wanted to close the loop on this one-- it was indeed the clutch switch. Picked it up at the dealer and popped it in. Pretty easy fix.
