I find the heat only bothers me when I ride in shoes and jeans which is rare. With real boots and riding pants I don't notice it much.

On one of my rear wheels the bore was undersized but was fixed by Woody's Wheel Works. That can lead to early failure as the bearing is a bit crushed. As for the rest I change the bearings every year...

Clean all the threads and Loctite worked for me. Some of the threads on one of my mounts were a bit screwed up from the factory mirrors so I drilled in from the side and put a pin through it.
