Krylon Fusion is made for plastics. Wipe down with rubbing alcohol and paint. Changed the grey on my Versys to black 5yrs ago and still going strong. Even where my boots contact it.

Last month did Engineer Pass as well as Cinnamon 12,800+ chugging really slow with no issues. agree it sound like a stepper motor linkage issue.

Filter arrived and installed. Have to say it doesn't go on in 5 mins!!! Takes some serious finagling to get it on on an ABS bike!! You do have to take off the ABS cover to get it on!!

As Tom said, it's just a bit heavy to be horsing up the upper sections of Engineer and Cinnimon Passes. Bike did fine but this old guy was breathing pretty hard at the top!:D

Don't have the immobilizer issue but the key sure does get hot! 2 hr ride in 85+ weather, pull the key out and it will burn your fingers!
That area of the bike runs hot!
