Never puncture the filter. You're not going anywhere once you've gone down that route....
Wrap some wet and dry or sandpaper around the inside of the filter tool and hit it onto the filter.

I always remove the gearbox with the swing arm...
I always remove the gearbox with the swing arm and final drive still attached - if the gearbox is seized on the locating dowels just lift the final drive and down very hard with some force as far...

Yes it's a CO pot. twiddle the screw and see if the idle alters. You'll need to turn it 3-4 turns before you hear the idle alter.
Don't be surprised if the screw is seized. :D CO reading...

Just unscrew the small electrical unit from servo (4 screws) and leave it plugged into the loom. Remove the rest of servo and dispose of :D
