The float switch that controls the fuel light is adjustable therefore the mileage at which it comes on is no indicator of fuel consumption.
Take note of how much fuel is needed to top up the tank...

The fuel pressure should be given in the workshop manual - for my Dakar it's
3.5 + or - 0.2 bar (50.76 + or - 2.8 psi)
I can't think that BMW are going to honour the warranty with an adjustable...

What do you use to lube the chain? Excess oil/lube gets flung off and runs down the cases to drip from the drain plug but "a few table spoons" seems too much for that.

The Dakars do have a few problems with the wiring,the loom to the switch(as you found out!)and also next to the rear suspension adjuster the wiring can chafe and short.BMW dealers are aware of this...
