The push rode was upgrade from aluminum to steel because there were cases that it was bent. You can pull yours out and check. If it's not bent, upgrading won't make any difference.

I found a good quality German NSK 3206 bearing locally for a good price. Yes my research showed the same thing, 23.8mm is not enough for two bearings.

It wasn't easy to pull the old bearing out....
