Had the same happen. When I found one in my oil it was actually the 2nd one to fail.

I think it's usually 2nd gear. If they all fail, you'll lose that gear.

You can try adding one first (the matchbox one is easy/simple/good price).

If you pick up a volt or 2 it's a big step up...

Rear disc brake trouble shooting procedure.

A friend has an '84 R100RT with an ineffective rear disc brake.

Fluid is topped up but there's no real braking power.

Yes, some won't require modification.

Or you can sand the bars or enlarge the controls.

Not stock but allows you to use a much larger variety of bars and at 1/3 of the cost.

Brake Switch

Slide the rubber boot back.

Unscrew the 2 set screws holding wires.

Loosen lock ring and unscrew switch.

Doesn't matter which way wires go back on.

Relocate to lower transmission bolt

I have longer allen bolt in the lower right transmission mounting hole and then a double nut with a new ground wire clamped between the nuts.

I did have to order the bolt to get the right length.
