Agree - BUT.... the bike runs better once it's nice and hot ? This indicates it's too lean when cold/warm, but settles when up to temp?

Seems like something else is messing it up.

As the engine warms, it need a less rich mixture - thats what chokes are for. So common sense says it may be a bit on the lean side :deal

Check fuel flow through tap - check tank vent too....

Try just winding the throttle open...

Dunno what the WATT output is on your bike, but most likely you can just fit a small 12v reg and as you say, swap all the bulbs. It probably has 2 x coil in the stator, one for the ignition system...
