I would stay away from the exhaust. You are trying to eliminate heat , not absorb radiant heat. The front left beside the cylinder is a more common location. It is also the cooler side of the motor....

Make your box for the right side and put a oil tank from a TT in the left. It allows a wider rear tire and moves weight down and center. My bike handled better when I switched the oil tank location....

Coils have a primary and a secondary stage inside If both are working you should have a blue spark. If it is yellow your secondary failed and puts out a spark but not hot enough to run the bike....
