Ok, think I can easily grind them off with the Dremel from the inlet side keeping them open.

I'll mark them with a felt tip pen to remember which side is left/right, up down and in/out :)

So, the diaphragms should only fit with the slide pushed...

It was one of the cables going to the right hand coil that was dodgy. Fixed now. Strange though that the left hand coil stopped working as well, they must be linked somehow...
