Have not got to the point to call it quits, but sure do have days when the driver of the car or other vehicle if he/she didn't see me I would be a traffic accident statistic. I'm becoming a firm...

It's been years,

Had a kick only model and it has some issues.
Try backing the idle adjustment all the way out so it is not giving any slide lift. Then kick with the choke fully engaged, taking care to not give any...

Put some gas in it and put a couple thousand miles on it. You will then have your ideas on what you need and want.

choices

About the same aftermarket for both. I sold the DR and kept the DR-Z. It just does the off pavement better, and I like the 40 pounds less weight.

KTM or ?

I'd go with the KTM if that your #1. But then I ride muti-day trips and lots of miles on a Suzuki DR-Z400S. 10,000 miles is really not that many miles.

Ims

The IMS has a 4.0 gallon tank, no 4.9. I get a reliable 220 miles per tank. Get the natural as it lets you view the level. Takes the guess work out of how much is in the tank.

redline?

Not sure about the redline number, but it makes max hp at 8,500 rpm and max torque at around 6,600 rpm so cruising at 60 mph should not cause any concern. I have about 14,000 miles on mine and with...

rpms

The DR-Z is a short stroke motor, so yes it needs rpm to develop torque and hp. Stock gearing is 15/44. To compare what rpm you are using at different mph a good source is www.gearingcommander.com....

Thanks for the report, K16HBN.
The DR-Z400 seems like a good choice for rides who put on the miles.

suspension for heavy guy

Step at a time. Get the springs first. I have found any fork oil heavier than stock makes the action very stiff.

Weird Bug,
The more miles and hours you put on the DR-Z will probably answer your questions for how you want to use it.
I personally think the DR-Z is a very reliable dual sport and is my choice...

Nice to know.
Not sure if it helps, but I routinely add a drop of oil to the top of barrel shaped cable end at the lever on the engine.
