There are so many things you can change when building an engine it isn't a hard rule, but in the simplest explanatiin a long stroke engine gives better torque, a big bore engine leans to hp .

Not to the engine it doesn't, but using a smaller sprocket increases chain and sprocket wear. So staying with the bigger numbers up front is slightly better in that regard.
