I used the center stand at home in Santa Cruz. But,

I put eye hooks in my ceiling and hung tie downs from them, and hooked the tie downs to the handle bars,

That kept it from falling over as...

I too had the hot knives in the neck after long rides.
I moved my handlebars to the forward position by turning the mounting clamps around and haven't had the problem since.

Try replacing all of your spark plugs before the coils.

My old '09 did that and we found an hairline crack in the insulator on one of the primary plugs.

New plugs took care of the problem

Check to see if your forks are aligned w/ each other.
I had the same problem on my '98, my '01 and on my '04 GS's. The bars always seemed to be turned slightly.
