Cool, as you might have guessed, I forgot to bounce/compress after the tire change...other than that, all good. Removing the valve core really helped to set the bead.

Sounds to me like your battery might be getting weak. If it was better after a short ride, it might have charged up? They make an awful clanking sound when the bat is flat. YMMV
