It's not that hard to do it if you really want, you can hire a bike easy in Thailand and cross to Laos, there is some paper work involved...

Back Down The Ho Chi Minh Trail...all the way
After riding up to Ls36 I headed back to Vientiane, crossed back over into Thailand and hired a scooter to go back home, it's getting to hot to fanny around at custom's and the Lifan is tucked away...
