I believe the other way around. The RT PAIRS with the helmet ie helmet 1 and helmet 2 are the menu options. I have a 2012 RT.
Then pair the NAV V to the helmet.

I just completed the Ride Around Texas (RAT) and I can't believe what my NAV V did or what Peter at Garmin told me! Twice during the ride it just would not turn on after restarting the bike....
